It's just that resolution or PPI pixels per inch are used on digital design or web while DPI dots per inch is a term used for printers and output devices. For web works, 1 inch is equal to 96px or 96 pixels per inch PPI. What this means is that a 96px width on your screen looks exact same on a 1 inch width in the real world.

On the other hand, if you are working on digital designs or print media, you may want to get PPI of your monitor or your printer's DPI if you are going to print your design.

I wanted to convert inches to pixels for a legacy web page that need some work and I just wanted to be consistent with the units used throughout the site. I worked around the issue by selecting a custom dpi of 72 which is the usual standard for screens.

I suggest you allow the user to choose between Scanner and Screen conversions. It does the job really well ……. I use it for photography to calculate finished print size , for processing software that does not give me Inches to pixel ratio. Thanks again well done.
