But it is hard not to sympathize with the man given the situation he was in, and it stands to reason that if the Templars were a little less militant maybe things would have never needed to go so far. Alexius is a Tevinter Magister who is conscripting mages against their will in Dragon Age: Inquisition.
At first it seems that he is doing so merely because he is power hungry, but as most things in Dragon Age it is more complicated than that. Alexius is building an army to help the Elder One rebuild Tevinter and trying to save his son from a magical wasting disease known as Blight Sickness. His methods may be cruel but his motivations, if not noble, are at least understandable. Samson is a former Templar and is the second in command to Corypheus, the main villain of Dragon Age: Inquisition.
Samson has convinced many survivors of the Mage-Templar war to serve him in his war to overthrow the corrupt Chantry. Samson is complicit in or an active participant to many of Corypheus' crimes, yet he does all of this in service of taking vengeance on the Chantry.
While vengeance is not the purest form of motivation it is hard to blame Samson for hating the Chantry for its policy of getting Templars addicted to lyrium so they can be easily controlled.
Anders is a former member of the Ferelden Circle of Mages who has caused trouble for most of his life. In his youth he would routinely attempt to escape his confinement only to be recaptured again and again. Eventually he escaped during the events of Dragon Age: Origins and was not recaptured.
He also winds up partially possessed by a spirit of Justice that compels him to become more and more militant against his former prison guards. His descent into zealous freedom fighter climaxes in him blowing up the Kirkwall Chantry towards the end of Dragon Age 2. In Inquisition , finding a Codex entry will make me happier than completing a quest. They feel real. In short, like a not insignificant amount of real history written by winners , by the rich and the powerful and the people with a vested interest in convincing posterity that their actions were completely and utterly justified and that their enemies deserved their miserable fates, the official history is generally full of shit.
That the Chantry lies is just a fact. It lies to everyone, including its own people. To pick a not-insignificant plot point from Inquisition , it comes as a complete surprise to Cassandra Pentaghast, Seeker and Right Hand of the Divine, that the Seekers have known how to cure Tranquility for centuries, and that she herself was subjected to the procedure.
They will cheerfully rewrite history , if it suits them. They will murder witnesses. They will cover up atrocities. Dragon Age 2 is particularly good about this. It is the story of the powerless trying to wrest control of the narrative from the powerful. The Chantry has views on Hawke, and on what happened in Kirkwall. Varric has a different story. Which is part of the reason why Cassandra is interrogating him in a darkened room far from the public eye.
First things first: have you forgotten that Orlais occupied Kirkwall until Blessed? They arrived to liberate the city from the Qunari, and then thought they might as well own the place.
They do that. Nor did they courteously go home after a while: the Marchers rose up and kicked them out. Orlais has an empire. It grabs territory whenever it can. Sometimes the locals manage to win their freedom, but the Orlesians are always looking to take the land back. Nevarra let them in and got occupied. The Dales tried to keep them out and got conquered.

Maybe, maybe not. Ferretinabun Status: Offline. By Xilizhra - Thu Nov 14, am. Not in any universe. It makes no sense whatsoever with Hawke's family being what it is.
This has nothing to do with which side you favor. There are two Standard-ranked traps requiring 20 Cunning to disarm in the main room, one on the eastern side and one on the western side. There are at least two Templar Hunters and a Lieutenant alongside an Elite-ranked Enchanter in this fight. There is an armor upgrade for Anders in the Warehouse and a gift for Fenris.
Keran will be here in templar plate regardless of the resolution of Enemies Among Us ; he will tell Hawke that someone close to them has been kidnapped by the rebels and that they have been taken to a hideout on the Wounded Coast.
At this point Hawke has the choice of:. If Hawke agrees with his views on Meredith, then he will automatically be allowed to leave. Loot the area, there is a Complex-ranked chest 30 Cunning, xp to the right of the entrance and the Blade of Mercy. Head to the Wounded Coast. Take the low path and head south towards the Ruins. Fight a small group of Templars and Mages on the way. A cut-scene will then occur where Samson will approach Hawke.
They are being led by the templar Thrask , who will implore Hawke to side with them against Meredith.
