Ermis2 has three MTU 16V M90 engines giving her a combined 10,hp and a top speed of 55 knots. With a maximum cruising range of Measuring in at 37 meters, she can comfortably sleep up to 8 guests and 4 crew members. Chato is an all-aluminum yacht that was built in by Italian yard Baglietto.
Clocking in at a top speed of 57 knots, this speed machine has been one of the fastest yachts in the world for more than three decades. Measuring in at 25 meters, it can comfortably accommodate up to six guests.

Powered by a water jet propulsion system and 6 gas turbine engines, this motor yacht can reach top speeds of 60 knots. Measuring in at 50 meters in length, this ship can comfortably fit up to 12 guests and crew. Image From Yacht Charter Fleet. Duck or tack? When beating on port tack you need to know, in advance, whether to tack or duck on meeting a starboard tack boat.
Wave them through instead, and duck their transom if necessary. Sort the boat out! While there are many small ways in which a little extra performance can be gained with a relatively small amount of effort, many of the benefits will be lost if the boat is not up to scratch.
Does everything work exactly as it should? Would the foils benefit from being faired? If the boat is kept afloat is the bottom immaculately clean? Is the rig properly set up? Can you tweak the rigging tension for different wind conditions? How good are the sails? Hydrofoils are small, underwater wings.
These act in the same way as an aircraft wing, creating a lift force which acts against gravity, lifting our yacht upwards so that the hull is clear of the water. A hydrofoil just the size of three A3 sheets of paper, when moving at just 10 mph, can produce enough lift to pick up a large person.
This significantly reduces the surface area and the volume of the boat that is underwater, which cuts the frictional drag and the wave-making drag, respectively. The combined effect is a reduction in the overall drag to a fraction of its original amount, so that the yacht is capable of sailing much faster than it could without hydrofoils.
The other innovation that helps boost the speed of racing yachts is the use of rigid sails. Rigid sails, which are very similar in design to an aircraft wing, form a much more efficient shape than traditional sails, effectively giving the yacht a larger engine and more power. Imagine a completely calm day, with no wind. As you walk, you experience a breeze in your face at the same speed that you are walking.
The two together form the apparent wind, which can be faster than the true wind. Rigging : elliptical multi-strand rigging vibrates less than rod, reducing windage 5. Bowsprit : extend the foretriangle without increasing mast height 6. Furling code sails : new top-down furling sails tack faster, remove the need to gybe and keep extra crew off the bow during manoeuvres 7. Hull : strip the bottom paint all the way back to the hull and re-fair, then apply a new super-slick surface 8.
Tende r: consider a smaller, lighter version, and carbon fibre chocks 9. Dump the junk : empty lockers of items that really belong in your shore container New jib tracks : match new tracks to suit sheeting angles Flat-top main : increase light-air downwind performance with increased sail area Move the chain locker : doing this distributes weight farther aft Start at the ends of the boat. Even stainless winch caps can be replaced with titanium Replace sheets and halyards : use new, lighter, less stretchy Dyneema lines Replace the deckhouse : it is major surgery, but a carbon deckhouse will save tonnes, and you can upgrade the glass to a lighter, more heat-reflective surface at the same time Water woes : stop dragging bottled water around each litre of fresh water weighs 1kg by installing RO with taste filters.
